renewing the index, very high CPU load

Post by abr01 »

All my 16 cores are almost working at full power. Is there a way to throttle the process, since the progress is quite slow anyway? I don't mind if it takes twice as long.

Edit, hmm, now, at 27%, the CPU load has fallen to some much lower amount.

Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> index_max_threads

For your PC, please try setting this to 8.
0 = all available CPUs. (16 in your case)

A recommendation for 14900K, please.
8P+16E = 24 cores
32 logical processors

Yes, thanks, i will try that. Anyway, resuming the indexing today goes much smoother.

Something like that is exactly my plan. But mostly because of my DAW and home music productions. Doubling the RAM as well. Thanks!

You shouldn't need to change the defaults.
Unless you are indexing 8+ SSDs or have enable multiple threads for 8+ indexes.

I typically recommend half of your logical processors.

16 in your case.

Might be different for CPUs with power- and efficiency cores combined.
"The system" decides if such a task (=thread) needs to run on a P- or E-core.
Regardless of the outcome of that, it would use either all 8 P-cores or all 16 E-cores.

Personally I would play it save adn configure 8 logical cores.
But just test, I would say. If there are any noticeable limitations, increase the number.
