Searching Two Words

Post by cru_tech »

Hi,
New to the forum, love Everything.
We have been using it in house for a long time, trying it for one of our clients, who suggested that it wasn't working
SO it appears that they are searching - for example - for a post code EG TF8 7LS, so Everything isn't finding this, but if I "TF8 7LS" it works.
So, not being a code person, is it possible to adjust the Search Filter we have to 'add' the " or always do the full search.
Sorry if this seems a very basic question.

TIA

Simon.

So your quoted search did return the item which included "EG" in the results?
In general, the quotes should not be needed.

Check your Search menu item settings (in case something was inadvertently enabled affecting results).

Hi therube,

Yes with the " " it works.

Do you mean in the filter we have, or literally within the Search menu?

And TF8 7LS - without quotes, also does not find it?
I guess not.

'Filename or Content' /is/ enabled.
That must be a filter they set up.

Change that to the 'Everything' filter & see if you then don't get what you're after.

Then tell us the settings of the 'Filename or Content' filter (& why it wasn't finding what you were after).

Please try changing your filter search to:

<search:> | content:<search:>

Hi,
That gives me a lot more results (including the 4 original ones) but tf8 7na isn't in any of the extra documents.

Please try the following filter search:

<search:> | wholeword:content:<search:>

Everything will now only match whole words in your content.

Thanks, but that give me that same results as before - IE lots of results (including the 4 with the search criteria) and others without.

OK, having worked on this most of the day, it would appear to be a version issue.
We installed the latest beta (1.5.0.1390a) version on the clients side, and it doesn't search as expected.
DOWNGRADED to 1.5.0.1383a - without changing any other settings - and it searches as expected. Chose this one as one of the client machines already had Everything installed and configured with this version and it worked. Exported the settings and filter to another client machine, didn't work.
Downgraded to the same version - works.
FYI :-)
