Ability to sort photos by "date taken"?

Post by knowerrr »

Recently, I backed up 30,000 photos to my PC from my iCloud, which went great. But now, when I try to sort my photos by their date taken in the win10 file explorer, I have to wait 10 mins for them to arrange themselves.

Is there a way to order the sorting of photos in Everything by their date taken? I am not savvy to the coding that some of you do with the app.

So far, I've tried narrowing the search to everything within my 'Icloud backup' folder, which displays all 30,000 images. The problem is that they all get sorted by their creation or modification date when they were backed up, under a month ago, rather than their real dates taken within the past 4 years.

If you guys have an easy solution that would be fantastic. I love using this app for all my searching needs.
Thanks!

Everything 1.5 will have support for a Date Taken column.

To show the Date Taken column in Everything 1.5:
  • In Everything 1.5, right click the result list column header and click Add column....
  • Search for:
    taken
  • Select Date Taken and click OK.
Gathering the date taken values will take a long time (same as Windows Explorer)

Please consider indexing date taken to make this faster for future searches:
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Properties tab on the left.
  • Click Add....
  • Search for:
    taken
  • Select Date Taken and click OK.
  • Check Fast Sort.
  • Click OK.

Awesome man, thank you for the info!! Is there a way to do this indexing idea in the win10 file explorer? I was searching for a way to but couldn’t figure it out.
Happy New Year!
