Content of .EFU files

Post by tuska »

Hi,
I don't understand the following right now:

Search for: ext:bar --> 231 objects (only .bar files!)
File > Export... CTRL+S > Filename: BAR; EFU Everything File List (*.efu) > File, e.g.: C:\TEMP\BAR.efu

Open BAR.efu --> 342 objects folders and files!?

Why don't I see the 231 exported files in Everything after opening the file BAR.efu?
but also the folder names in which the .bar files are located?
They do not have "bar" in their name.

If I continue searching in the opened .efu file, then I can enter search words,
that might give me folder names, but maybe not .bar files.

When exporting to an .efu file I would have expected the data to be saved 1:1 in the .efu file
and after opening the .efu file to see only this files 1:1 in front of me again, as if I had entered ext:bar.

Thanks in advance for a reply.

Regards
Karl

And your expectation is correct! (check the EFU file in Notepad)
and after opening the .efu file to see only this files 1:1 in front of me again, as if I had entered ext:bar.
Everything adds the folders that make up the path of your .BAR files. But only in the presentation (the "EFU viewer"), not in the EFU file itself.

I think that is needed to make functions like depth: work.
(and for that, it has to be converted to Everything "structure")

(BTW: I have a filter FILES for that; it searches for file: )

I tried to emulate your posts on the German part of the Total Commander forum :D
(which I visit every once in a while)

I hope you were satisfied.
By the way, you might want to visit the Total Commander forum more often - version 9.50 is already available as beta version.

For some questions I like to contact the specialists. :)

I thought *you* were one of the specialists? :o
I visit the TC forum more often than I ever use Total Commander; the combined knowledge is impressive.

I am just a hobby user (without programming skills) and need help from
specialists in the 'Everything' forum as well as in the 'Total Commander' forum.
From the acquired knowledge I then pass something on to other users.
