Double Click problem while preview is on

Post by vip_shadow » Wed Jun 28, 2017 1:04 am

I have 2 problems with Everything. Maybe it's normal but I'd like to see what others think.

1- While preview window is ON, when I double click a file in search results to open it, everything starts renaming the file.
I assume everything takes the first click to select the file and showing its preview, and since there comes another click windows start rename procedure.
To open a file while preview window is open, I have to first click the target file to be selected and then double click to open it.
Is there any option somewhere for this case? I prefer to open the file with just double clicking it.

2-After searching for a file while preview window is ON, If I simply right click a file, nothing happens. I have to first click the file to select it then right click to have context menu. Is it normal?

Everything 1.4.1.877(x64)
Windows 10 is set to open files with double click
Everything Option : Singe Click open: is set to Use System settings

any kind of advice is much appreciated.

ad 1. That seems to me how this should work. A "triple click" on this filename does open the file though.
ad 2. Not reproducible here (*). A right click on any file/folder gives the context menu right away.

(*) Win 7 ; Everything 1.4.1.877 (x64) ; Singe Click open: Use System settings (=double click)

Tested on W7. Everything 1.4.1.877 (x64). No such problems here.

Thanks for the bug report.

Some preview handlers cancel the double click timer when shown.

Loading the preview handlers as CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER fixes the issue, however this may cause some compatibility issues with some preview handlers in Everything.

Please try Everything 879 for a fix:

I can confirm this version works OK. Double click opens any file right away.

BTW: build 879 isn't available through the Downloads page / Home page

Thanks for that, Stamimail! (I never browsed the forums beyond the "Active Topics" viewforum.php?f=1 )

EDIT: ... which I should start doing, as now I noticed version 1.4 is no longer beta!!
What do you know ...

BTW2: Not that it matters (to me), but 879 isn't listed among the nightly builds either.

879b is not a stable fix for this preview handler issue, some preview handlers will not work at all, or work incorrectly with 879b, whereas they will work with 877. A more permanent solution is on my TODO list.
