Unable to install

Post by ss3d »

Hi all,

I was unable to uninstall and now unable to install a new version of everything on my windows 10 machine. Basically it hangs at the last 5% of the installation progress bar. Any ideas?

I think this is an awesome program and I have been using it for years.. but now I am unsure what is wrong on this machine.

Regards,
Steve.

Thank you. Trying it..

Currently 'Please wait... at the 66% mark' have been waiting for about 1 min does not look good.
Just to be clear my previous installation did not want to uninstall. I have killed the process but also killed the option to uninstall it.

Not really sure how to proceed. I use this at work and am a big fan of the tool. Perhaps I can try an older version?

'EDIT' unable to even cancel the install

Please try terminating all Everything.exe processes and please try reinstalling with the msi installer:
  • In the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + ESC)
  • Click the Details tab.
  • Select Everything.exe and click End Process.
  • Click End Process.
  • Repeat for all Everything.exe processes.
  • Please try installing from the msi installer again.

Sometimes when I try to turn off the service from everything when I want to replace the current version with a new one, something happens with the service and I can't disable it in any way other that restarting the pc.
It is saying something about...the service is marked for deletion

Maybe this is something related.
And btw, sorry for the offtopic but is there is any reason why would someone want to use the installer version.
Does the installer offer anything different that downloading the portable version and run it as admin or install the service(if you enable certain options, you can make it run as the installer version)

Not IMO.
(It may allow you to set some settings during the install, but big deal.
If you had to "manage" Everything - through Group Policy or similar, the installer/.msi may be what is desired?)

Correct. In most companies MSI's are the preferred way of software deployment.

If you are still having trouble installing Everything with the installer, please try to manually install Everything:
  • In Windows Explorer, navigate to:
    C:\Program Files
Create a new folder called Everything
Copy your Everything.exe to this folder
    Run Everything.exe
When prompted with Access Denied, select Install the Everything Service and click OK.
In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the General tab on the left.
Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
    Click OK.
