I think that gets confusing. "Hide results when the search is empty" with tooltip "Only display results when you type in a search" is unambiguous.
Besides: pressing the spacebar is enough to show al results.

In most cases - at least the ones reported on this forum - this is caused because a filter or search one of the search options got enabled.
You can check the Search menu entry. The only option enabled should be Everything to get all results.

One might think that this actually deletes the files / folders instead of removing them from the list.

Yes, there is: Menu:Index > Show All Temporary Excludes... will show a list of all files.folder you excluded. Double-clicking (or ENTER) them will open it's folder in File Explorer. I think you guys (M/F) are on different wavelengths.
As I see it, Horst is asking why you (@aviasd) use a tot.bat instead of c:\path to\totalcmd64.exe /parms

First guess: you enabled a search option under Menu:Search. Make sure only Everything is enabled (so no Match Path, etc) You can also check the statusbar as i will show if you have a filter, a search option enabled or opened an EFU file. Double-clicking those - if enabled - will reset them to default.

There are more launchers that use Everything to find files: Wox, Keypirinha, ueli, Fluent Search.

Recently - 4 weeks ago - the alpha version of Everything 1.5 was released.
In this 1.5 version you can mix folders and files!
