Full row select

Post by nagan »

I do not know if it is already there. If not will it be possible to provide for a Full row select and activating the FILE only on double click or shortcut from anywhere along the row (as an option)?

Hey void, how goes it these days?

Was curious if this has been implemented or if it is still lurking in the todo list?

I did a skim through the options and tried looking in the changelog with no success.
Don't mean to pester or bug, just curious.

Thanks,

Paul

Full row select is available in the Everything 1.4 beta:
http://www.voidtools.com/downloads/

To enable full row select:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the UI tab.
  • Check Full row select.
  • Click OK.

FeedBack:
1. I tested Full Row Select a week ago. I looked for this option in View Tab, where there are more similiar options...
2. I liked the Full Row Select idea, but finally disabled it because i didn't like the full row blue color. I didn't find FullRowSelect Background item in Fonts and Colors.
I think it would be better to add such an option, to adjudt the backgroud of the rows of the files selected.
Now I can get the colors view that I want, only for one file selected, and only when hovering the row, by Show Row Mouseover.

Edit:
2 different colors for FilesSelected and RowSelcted might be a solution only for one file selected.
I'm not sure it would be as useful solution for multiple files/rows selected.
Probably it is a matter of highlighting design. You can see the difference by Ctrl+A (SelectAll) in Everything and in Windows Explorer. By Windows Explorer design you can follow each row with the eyes.

I didn't find FullRowSelect Background item in Fonts and Colors
Try:

selected_background_color=#ffff00
selected_foreground_color=#000000

Pretty sure (without looking) those are available from the GUI.
Someone here posted a screenshot where the highlight was yellow, & I was like, WOW, I need that!

(I think those are the correct items.)

Thank You.
Compare this one:

with:

In Windows Explorer, you can see each row is seperated.

Antoher problem is that, while dragging it is activating the Drag & Drop feature almost anywhere along the row, while I want the selecting multiple files feature instead.
You see, I need this feature for distinguish along the selected rows, more than for opening files along the selected rows, although I think the Double Click for opening is OK. Just the dragging (activating Drag & Drop) is the "another problem".

Thanks for the feedback.
I didn't find FullRowSelect Background item in Fonts and Colors.
Colors can be changed from Tools -> Options -> Fonts and Colors:
  • Select Selected from the item states.
  • Change the background color.
  • Click OK.
I hope to add an optional customizable outline color for each item state.
I doubt I will use the Windows Explorer Style graphics as they only work in Windows 7... I'm considering an ini option to turn them on.
Antoher problem is that, while dragging it is activating the Drag & Drop feature almost anywhere along the row, while I want the selecting multiple files feature instead.
Clicking and dragging on any text will initiate drag dropping.
Clicking and dragging on any selected item will initiate drag dropping.
Clicking and dragging on an unselected items non-text area will start the selection mask.
This should be the same behavior as Windows Explorer.
Are you seeing something different?

Sorry for I was not so clear.
Here is what I meant at first:
Image

The OP nagan wanted it like the way of Windows Explorer. He was looking for opening files along the row.
On the contrary, I liked this feature only for the matter it letting me to follow with the eyes along the row.
I don't want to initiate drag dropping. I like the default behaviour (Full Row Select disabled).
I looked for a soultion to distinguish between and along the rows selected (without initiate drag dropping).

Thanks for the screenshot, that makes the suggestion easy to understand.

I'll look into adding another color state to change the background row color of a selected item.

I hope the "Edit:" and the other screenshots above are more understandable now.

Try also these settings:

IMO:
1. Underline shouldn't be under Date/Attributes etc
2. Path underline should open Path
3. Clicking on Underlined Text = open. Clicking on Space or other columns as Date/Attributes etc = choose.
