Fatal error installing everything with more than one user

Post by drbob »

Hi,

I just upgraded my installation of everything to the latest 1.4.1.1005

Upon install it failed because the installer was unable to replace everything.exe

There are multiple user accounts on my Windows 10 system and different users switch between them with windows fast user switching. Therefore at any one time everything.exe may be running under several different usernanes. It appears that the installer doesn't take this possibility into account, only terminating the instance of everything run by the current user before proceeding. The install then fails halfway through copying files because everything.exe is locked by the OS, leaving a broken installation.

I found that afte going to details tab in the task manager and manually ending the instances of everything.exe running under the other user accounts, I could succesfully install Everything.

Thank you for the bug report.

This is caused by the installer not exiting Everything for other users.

I have added this to my "Things to fix" list.

For now, you will need to manually exit out of Everything for each user:
  • For each logged in user:
    • In Everything, from the File menu, click Exit
