Everything does not log NTFS based RAMdisks

Post by marc »

Everything does not log NTFS based RAMdisks volumes.
The NTFS RAMdisk does not show as an available NTFS volume under the 'Volumes' tab in 'Everything Options'.

What RAMdisk software are you using?

I was able to get "Everything" to work with QSoft's RAMDrive.

There is a problem with empty volumes.
Please make sure there is at least one folder or file on the RAMDrive before indexing.

Actually you uncovered a greater problem with RAM disks. The true RAM disk (as set as a 'RAM disk' media type NOT as a 'removable drive' or 'fixed media'/'local disk') as implemented by Microsoft is significantly limited when compared to these other media types. A 'RAM disk' media type is not viewable in "Disk Management', cannot be formatted in Explorer or by the command FORMAT, cannot handle 'junction points' even if formatted to NTFS, and is not viewable in 'Everything' (and probably other limitations exist).

By switching the media type to a more versatile media type with having the data stored in RAM creates a RAM disk that has the best of both implementations.

Thanks for exposing the true problem - now I have a RAM disk that 'Everything' indexes!
