Just to mention something about this program(audacity)...if the file is not wav,when you try to open a file(or drag-drop)it will automatically try to convert it to wav and save it to the temp folder.
Maybe something related to permissions is the problem here.
I'm on XP and it works file

Are you using a high DPI display setting?
Audacity doesn't like files being dropped from an application that is high DPI aware (Everything 1.3/Windows Explorer) when running in a high DPI setting.
Otherwise, it appears to work for me.
Does the same problem occur when dragging a file from Windows Explorer?

Trying to think, 32/64-bit make a difference?
Probably not, for drag & drop, right.
Though it would for context-menu related functions.
Now are you running Everything Service or not?
If running Service, then it runs at a lower integrity level.
If not running Service, you're running at a high integrity level.
Drag & drop may not work between a high integrity level Everything & a lower integrity level Audacity. (Or was that vice-versa?)
That sort of thing would not apply in XP so you would not see the issue there.

did what you recommended
ran it as a service
restarted my pc as well
this time tried dragging and dropping a searched .mp3 with
audacity.exe (x86) --> still does not work
potplayer.exe (x64) (an mp3 player) --> yay! it works
hmmm i thought x86 vs x64 might be the problem
so i fired up MS word 2003 x86
searched everything for .png
and dragged into word
works fine
will do lots more drag and drops and see what happens..

Version 1.3.3.656 (x64)
fixed the drag and drop problem,
i dragged around single files/multiple files into different programs
works as expected
again.. thank you for EVERYTHING...
