Cryptomator unlocked vault

Post by emh7 »

Hi.

When I use Everything and try to add an unlocked vault which is mapped to a drive letter it does not show up as a drive that can be searched.

For example, when I unlock a Cryptomator vault and have it mapped to say the drive letter T:\, I can see it in Windows Explorer, but it does not show up when trying to add it as a folder to search in Everything using Options | Folders | Add.

Any ideas? Thanks.

(Linked: Cryptomator.)
(I'll just guess that it sets up a virtual device that Everything is not aware of.)

Could be a privilege issue? -please try running Everything as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Everything service.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.
Can you add this drive manually?
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab.
  • Click Add....
  • Manually type in T: and click OK.
  • Click OK.

The thread is a bit older, but still up to date.
Following the instructions above, I mounted the Cryptomator drive (FUSE) in Everything as a folder.
BUT:
A search still finds nothing in this drive.

Does searching for root: find your Cryptomator drive?

Does searching for t: find files/folders on your Cryptomator drive?
(where t: is your Cryptomator drive)

Please try unlocking your Cryptomator drive and rescanning your Cryptomator drive:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab.
  • Select your Cryptomator drive and click Rescan Now.
  • Click OK.
Does the issue persist?

No, nothing helped.
Also unlocking and Rescanning did not change anything.

X: testfile.txt
finds nothing

root: testfile.txt
finds nothing

just for checking:
D: testfile.txt or only testfile.txt
finds the file on D:

Is X: your Cryptomator drive?

Does the following search show any files/folders:

x:

Could you please send some debug output:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /debug_log
  • Type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /verbose
  • From the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab.
  • Select your Cryptomator drive and click Rescan Now.
---wait for Everything to rescan your Cryptomator drive---
([Rescanning] is shown next to your Cryptomator drive)
  • Click OK.
  • Type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /restart
  • Could you please send your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt to support@voidtools.com

Years ago I had Cryptomator installed.
It created a drive for the unencyrpted data which could be seen by Everything
but it was not fully NTFS combatible.
So I guess one must use folder indexing.

@ horst.epp
I do not really understand:
which folder indexing do you mean?

Thank you for the debug logs ufung,
2022-11-22 17:52:40.954: scanning X:\...
2022-11-22 17:52:40.954: failed to open directory 3
The logs show Everything attempting to scan your X: drive, but this drive does not exist.

This is likely an issue with Everything or Cryptomator running as an administrator.

In the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + ESC)
Click the Details tab.
is Everything running as your user name or as SYSTEM?
is Cryptomator running as your user name or as SYSTEM?

which folder indexing do you mean?
You are using folder indexing.
Your setup looks correct.

Many thanks for your analysis.
The results are:

2 Cryptomator processes and 1 everything process are running with my name.
But there is also 1 everything process running as SYSTEM.

Restart did not help.

Thank you for the information.

Your results are normal.

Both Cryptomator and Everything are running as a standard user.

The other Everything.exe process is the Everything Service which runs as SYSTEM.
This is normal.

Could you please check if a command prompt can access your Cryptomator drive:
  • From the Start menu, search for: cmd
  • Click Command prompt.
  • Type in the following and press ENTER:
    X:
  • Type in the following and press ENTER:
    DIR
  • Does this list the root directory of your Cryptomator drive?

Thank you for testing the command prompt.

Cryptomator is likely blocking the Everything.exe process.

Please try the Everything 1.5 alpha (x64 version).

-or-

Please try renaming your Everything.exe:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Uncheck Everything Service.
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
  • Rename your Everything.exe to notEverything.exe
  • Launch notEverything.exe
  • When prompted, install the Everything Service.
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Everything Service.
  • Re-check any other options as desired. (eg: Run on system startup)
  • Click OK.

Here are the results:
- renaming did not change anything

- Everything 1.5 alpha

I choosed option "Run indexing process as administrator"
=> I can search Cryptomator drive (added as a folder)
!!! SOLUTION!!!

Cryptomator drive file system is still FUSE

Thanks a lot

How have you manage to make it work in Everything v1.5a exactly ?
Are these the steps you have done to achieve this ?
  • 1/ In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options
  • 2/ General on the left.
    Run indexing process as administrator:selected

Unfortunately, I do not remember exactly how I managed to do it.
But unfortunately it did not last.
After some time (I rarely use Cryptomator) it stopped working.
Now I don't feel like putting any more time into it.
