That would be a very bad idea as the index changes all the time after an initial scan.
So there would be useless savings to disk which today may be an SDD.

The new indexing, what they're referring to as "Find my files," only indexes file system metadata, which they say is up to 100x faster than file content indexing. That's what I was referring to. It also automatically excludes OS files and temp areas. Windows still does have its traditional indexing...

It indexes all files which is similar to Everything but it also indexes the contents which is much more than Everything ever does. It was always possible to add more folders to Windows indexing so its not realy exiting. Now you can index all files and make exceptions, which is easier to handle. I us...

Drive stream is not an NTFS volume and also folder indexing will be hard to implement.
For me indexing such data is not part of a free tool like Everything.
I think there are many functions which are already in Davids list to implement
which are of more value to most users.

The answer is simple.
Use NTFS indexing for the local drives
and Folder indexing for the mapped network drives.

To my understanding the file is not used while a session is active.
Only the RAM copy is used and on exit stored to disk.
So the fragmentation has no real impact on performance.

PDF's can be text documents, images (scan2pdf, for example) or a combination of both (digital magazines). Everything uses iFilters to read the contents of files (like @horst.epp already mentioned. Quite unsure about the pdf extension certainly. If there's no such a big deal about searching through the txt files and word as well, pdf requires an ocr feature, which is more complicated and most of the services are usually putting it in as a "pro" feature, like here for example https://edit-pdf....

I'm blaming Windows update. The last update broke wake on lan. The Intel lan driver was replaced with a MS version that had fewer options, including one to wake the pc from shutdown. I have the same version of OS and Everything.
There is no problem to read the contents of the WER folders.
I guess you have not installed the Everything service.
Do this and also let Everything start with your normal windows logon.

On an actual hardware and Windows 10 you don't have performance impacts with Windows indexing. Everything only indexes file names and some other data but not content.
